Review by The Obelisk / Stoner Rock:

Infernal Overdrive Kick into Gear
With creation by Andrew Schneider (Throttlerod, The Introduced Low, Hackman) and mastering by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance East in Boston, there’s no doubt that New Jersey riff rockers Infernal Overdrive are heading for that Small Stone Data sound. The 4 tracks that comprise their new self-titled EP fall in line with the type of straightforward guitar-led rock the Detroit label has proffered for effectively more than a decade now, and with a equivalent southern/classic ‘70s impact to New York’s The Introduced Lower, Infernal Overdrive appear remarkably aware of what they’re undertaking sonically. More so than you may possibly count on for a band just releasing their initial EP.

The story goes that when guitarist/vocalist Marc Schleicher (ex-Cracktorch [MySpace], Antler) moved from Massachusetts to central New Jersey, he received hooked up with drummer Mike Bennett and guitarist/backing vocalist Rich Miele (both ex-Loud Earth [Reverb Nation, Facebook]). Keith Schleicher (relation assumed) was additional on bass and Infernal Overdrive commenced rocking out early 2008. The EP was recorded over two days in February and 4 in April, and even though that seems speedy, none of the songs feels rushed or underdone. Schneider, who also displays up on further backing vocals, tends to make his mark sound-sensible in the tone of Schleicher and Miele’s guitars and Bennett’s snare audio, which has the very same pop Schneider has grow to be acknowledged for – not also vibrant, but capable to reduce by means of the blend and propel the songs forward. Some of Schleicher’s leads, as on EP nearer “Motor,” come to feel a tiny way too considered out, way too structured where what I’d like to listen to is a little bluesy ‘70s recklessness, but they get the job carried out nonetheless, and the vocals are by no means out of place.

Though the highway for which it is named runs down by way of the total East Coast, there’s no query that when Infernal Overdrive open up the EP with “I-95,” they are speaking about Jersey. The song is a southern-hued guitar rocker that sets the tone nicely for the 3 tracks that stick to with an ear toward rock traditionalism and, the moment yet again, like-minded Small Stone heavy-hitters Sasquatch, Dixie Witch, et al. It’s challenging to argue with the approach when it functions as effectively as it does on the speedy “The Edge,” which forgoes central Jersey’s popularity for heavy psychedelia in the style of Monster Magnet in favor of Halfway to Gone’s stripped-down consider on rock. “Duel” slows down the tempo fairly but nonetheless keeps a mid?paced groove that can make use of some properly?placed lead lines that commence the tune reminding me of Iron Maiden filtered by means of Nebula’s druggy haze. Only “Motor,” which devolves into an extended jam that delivers the track to a somme of just beneath twelve minutes, is extended, as the songs on Infernal Overdrive go in purchase from shortest to longest. Whether or not that’s on purpose on the component of the band, I don’t know – I’d envision at least placing “Motor” last is – but I suppose it’s as good a strategy of organization as any.

There is a short message from the Devil after “Motor” finishes up, and that’s the finish of the EP. Infernal Overdrive are out fairly fast when you contemplate their initial release is only 26 minutes and a few of the four songs consider up about 11 of it. No grievances however, as the four-piece know specifically how to get the most out of their sound and present specifically that on these tracks. It’s a hell of an investment to make with a self-unveiled debut to hook up with the likes of Schneider and Zampiello, but Infernal Overdrive make the most of Schleicher and co.’s collected experience, and come off sounding self-confident and notably mature for a band who’s been together significantly less than three a long time. It might not be shifting the recreation, but Infernal Overdrive is undoubtedly really worth checking out for anybody who desires to hook into some strong and unpretentious heavy rock.

Review by Cutting Edge Rocks:
A couple many years in the past we reviewed a powerful up-and-coming Jersey band Loud Earth [Reverb Nation, Facebook]. Well, it appears they dissolved and morphed into Infernal Overdrive. The new band is two components Loud Earth [Reverb Nation, Facebook] (drummer Mike Bennett and guitarist/backing vocalist Rich Miele), a single portion Cracktorch [MySpace], Antler (guitarist/vocalist Marc Schleicher) and one particular part brother (bassist Keith Schleicher). Mike contacted me allowing me know the band shaped soon after Marc relocated from Boston and set up store in Jersey. He sent along the EP for my listening enjoyment. And a satisfaction it is! The songs are baked in southern ‘70s difficult rock with catchy riffs and plenty of electrical power rumbling in the pipes. The data is sketchy but in accordance the record’s liner notes, the 4-tune EP was recorded this yr in Brooklyn, NY through 5 days (Feb 27, 28 &amp April 17, 18, 24, 25). Production was dealt with by Andrew Schneider (Throttlerod, The Introduced Minimal, Hackman) with mastering by Nick Zampiello. Enthusiasts of our site will immediately make the Tiny Stone connection and that would seem to be exactly where the band are heading as the vibe is defiantly Detroit retro.

Consider for instance “I-95” which opens the disc with a reliable guitar wail and foot-stomping drum conquer. Tambourine is added for taste but the tune bellows like fellow Boston-natives Roadsaw, mixing biker thunder with a Pat Travers/Leslie West riff-fest. 2nd track, “The Edge” is pure old college Nugent, which includes the repeat riff and frantic, virtually MC5 delivery. Schleicher voice is ragged and ready to rock. The drums hammer and the bass drives laying down a sound bed for some sexy solo leads. “Duel” has far more Fu Manchu in the groove. It is largely in the chorus, but the build in the verse is nonetheless really Scott Hill/Brant Bjork. The track also boasts our favored solo – frayed, not above played and sparked with cosmic electricity. “Motor” is a thirteen-minute stoner masterpiece. A hefty bottom conclude delivers to thoughts Sabbath, Sasquatch and Mountain. The riff is clear but thick with a layered solo painting in all the little nuances – excellent for a psychedelic journey. The echo on the vocals provides to the songs dripping mysticism although the guitar is allowed to float, pierce and melt the mind. Yeah, it only four songs, but dude, someday that’s all you require when they’re this excellent.

Assessment by Hefty World
I lately had a chance to hear some new materials from thee men and I will inform you correct now, this is a band to be on the look out for. They are likely spots. Their audio is directly up southern stoner rock. If I had to compare them, I would say they are a little bit tougher version of The Brought Lower. Checkout the typical social media spots (links underneath) to hear what I’m talking about and preserve up to date with all their happenings simply because you are going to definitely be listening to from them once again.

What makes me sad is if you look it up there’s some footage of Snake dying in Metal Gear Rising. I’ve been a fan of this guy since the 1980′s when they made Metal Gear. Then MG2. MGS. And now the worst goodbye I have said in a while is: “Goodbye Snake, you had a good road.” Just before I turned off my PS3. Now I say it again: Goodbye Old Snake, for now and forever. And good luck to newcomers.

The only reason I would like a Metal Gear Solid movie is because I want people who don’t play Metal Gear Solid or videogames in general to be able to experience the story…

    @CalculusWhiz

The action is awesome and it captures Metal Gear’s atmosphere PERFECTLY. But the script is more than a little bit clunky.

  7. CalculusWhiz says:

@videogamenostalgia All too true, but have you watched the MGS: Philanthropy non-profit fan-made movie? I know it’s a bit different, but it was still kind of fun to watch. I heard Kojima himself liked it.

  8. CalculusWhiz says:

@WorldOfSnakes Piano + String Orchestra. I couldn’t do it without piano. Too bad it’s only half the song.

  9. videogamenostalgia says:

@CalculusWhiz An MGS movie would suck. Why bother? MGS is practically a movie anyway, except it is much, much longer and deeper than a movie could possibly be without being a hundred different movies. Some people have an obsession with wanting to see some games become movies, when they’re perfect just as they are- games. MGS games are already incredibly cinematic- what would being a movie bring to it. It would probably be terrible anyway- MGS has too much plot for a movie.

  13. WorldOfSnakes says:

@CalculusWhiz Is it for piano? Or is it for an orchestra? I don’t understand what you mean by “string orchestra”. Thanks!

  14. CalculusWhiz says:

Anyone interested in the sheet music for this (string orchestra only) can PM me. People seemed to like it when we performed it at school.

  15. naedanger123 says:

@darkG92 Yeah. The difference between this and other war games is that this is like a war with Snake trying to complete a final mission. Other war games are based as a grunt in the front lines of some war, just taking orders. This is why I think MGS4 wins most, if not all, of the time.
